THE CREATOR'S STATEMENT
I always wanted to make the quintessential Brooklyn film like “Do The Right Thing”, “The Lords of Flatbush”, “The Warriors”, “Requiem for a Dream” and “Good Fellas”. Growing up in Brooklyn in the 80’s it was all about style. Your style of dress and the kicks you rocked. Brooklyn and New York as a whole, played a big part in developing sneakers as a culture. From Mars Blackmon in Spike Lee’s “She’s Gotta Have It” and RUN DMC’S classic hit “My Adidas” to the B Boys and B girls in the Bronx in the early Hip Hop era, kicks played an important role in the identity of Brooklyn. With “SOLEKINGS”, we hope to put some names and faces to a culture that goes far deeper than just kicks. “SOLEKINGS” is more about the people who have a passion for kicks than the actual kicks. The stories will focus on their struggles, challenges, insecurities and triumphs in their quest to be fresh, to be successful, to be “SOLEKINGS” - Michael A. Pinckney
